The children met Mr Ted, our class history bear, who loves to learn all about the past. He helped the children think about ‘Now’ (the present time) and ‘Then’ (the past), as they ordered their own life-story photographs. The children started with their ‘Now’ photograph, as a Reception child and went back in time with Mr Ted, placing their toddler, older baby and new-born baby photographs back ‘Then’ on their own time-lines. The children observed the photographs carefully to find clues about their past, comparing different ages and stages of their lives, commenting on any changes, similarities and differences. The children have also been creating their own self-portraits, in order to observe themselves ‘Now’ in the present moment. Fantastic use of historical vocabulary!
