This week, the Shining Stars have been exploring capacity in the water, sand and rice trays. They have been using and applying a range of mathematical vocabulary such as full, empty, half full, half empty, nearly full and nearly empty. They have also been using previously learnt vocabulary such as most and least but in a different learning context. The children have enjoyed investigating the enquiry question: Do the tallest containers always hold the most? The children have done lots of estimating and testing! They have also learnt a lot about conservation of volume.  The Shining Stars have been introduced to the mathematical term ‘difference’ and found out the difference between some of their estimates and actual measurements! Well done, everybody!
