The Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Caroline Makinson, visited Tankersley School to present awards to Year 5 pupils who took part in a unique Covid Memorial Sculpture competition, with a once in a lifetime prize of having their artwork immortalised in Barnsley town centre. The competition was open to Year 5 children living in Barnsley, with pupils being set the challenge of creating artwork of their key worker heroes. Over a third of all primary schools in Barnsley took part, with pupils submitting a range of key workers- bus drivers, delivery people, shop workers, postal workers, nurses, paramedics and , of course, teachers!
We have a winner in our school and her artwork has been made into a bronze relief and can be found on the plinth of the statue in Glassworks Square in Barnsley.
