We celebrated the Fair Trade Fortnight again this year and prepared a number of special activities for the pupils to learn about the importance of Fair Trade. Each class had a lesson with a Fair Trade theme and the children found out about different items of food and drink, where they come from and how they are grown. The pupils from the Global Guardians group about themmunities in developing countries and how Fair Trade helps them. They presented it to the whole school on Wednesday 26th February. Pablo the Fair Trade banana came to visit and we had a quiz all about bananas. The pupils also watched a video about chocolate farmers in Sierra Leone.
During the morning break we had a special Fair Trade café and pupils were able to purchase pancakes with Fair Trade chocolate spread and Fair Trade bananas. The money raised by the café will be donated to Fair Trade foundation which helps farmers in developing countries to get a fair deal, look after their families and protect the environment.
