Class 3 – action in art.

Class 3 have been inspired by their lesson today in art, where we have looked at ‘action in art’. The children have looked at an action and have sketched each individual movement. This has inspired them to create a video showing their interpretation of slow motion movements.

Sculpture Workshop

The Y6 class have been busy taking part in a sculpture workshop. Neil Wood, a professional artist came into school to give the children the opportunity to develop 3D skills and techniques and to produce great art work. They produced original press mould designs in clay using a variety of tools and objects. The designs were then cast in plaster ready to be varnished and displayed in the school entrance.

Celebrating Christmas with music in our school

It’s been a busy very last week of the term for the choir and the musicians in our school. On Sunday it was the Christingle service at Tankersley Welfare Hall and the choir pupils performed 2 songs at this lovely family event annually organise by the local church. On Monday we visited the local residential home at Glebe Court to bring some festive cheer to the residents. We then continued with the carol singing at the Hoyland Common Co-op and many of our parents came to support us. The Community Christmas concert was held in the school hall on Tuesday night and we were treated to performances of Christmas music on a variety of instruments including the flute, clarinet, recorder, violin, guitar, piano and ukulele. The children’s choir and a special staff and parents’ choir sang too and it was a fantastic evening. We definitealy have some very talented pupils, teachers and parents in our school. On Wednesday we all walked up to Tankersley St Peter’s Church to take part in the Christmas service. We listened to the readings of the Christmas story and celebrated the birth of Jesus with singing many popular carols including Away in a Manger, Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Once in Royal David’s City and O Come All Ye Faithful. We finished the week with carol singing in the school playground with all our families. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

Our new ukuleles!

We were very fortunate to receive a grant from the EMI Sound foundation to purchase a class set of ukuleles. The Y3 class have been busy learning to play them and they are great fun!! The pupils have been rehearsing a piece for the Community Christmas concert and we are all looking forward to the performance.
